Have you ever wondered how a simple smile could change everything? No words would be uttered from the mouth; only that crescent formation of the lips would mean a lot. A feeling of happiness from the smiles we receive from each child.
We, as medical students, are distributed to different municipalities and barangays to help the communities grow and realize the importance of health. A child in every community reacts differently to new-comers. They tend to investigate each new person in their community. Education is not only given to the adults, but also to the young members of the community because they will be the future of the community.
School campaigns on health help every child to understand the importance of health. Interacting with them through lecture and games would help them realize and deeply understand the things we would want to convey.
Last September 30, 2015, a school campaign was held in Balamban Elementary School. It started with slogan making contest to lectures regarding proper handwashing, toilet sanitation and solid waste management. Then, the quiz bee was conducted outside the classrooms on the stage. Games regarding the lecture were also done to test their retention on the topics discussed. Students participated actively and retention of the knowledge gain was evident.
The whole day event was really tiring, but at the end of the day, the smiles and laughter from each child and the knowledge they gain are priceless. Also, we made new friends that would always greet us and give us that beautiful smile on their faces.
