Hope is often associated with motivation, inspiration, a going forward to a goal. But here we see hope not only as a vision but an action in itself set to move a community towards self-reliance and empowerment.
As the group envisions a Bag-ong Balamban, hope is to be set in action. Project HOPE aims to mobilize the community’s potential to promote health, advocate change and encourage initiative in achieving sustainable health in the barangay. Hence it is a bag-ong paghandom, a new hope that realizes action set by the community people themselves.
Project HOPE is an effort to bring Barangay Bag-ong Balamban not just as a community that envisions but more so a community that lives what it envisions. This is the barangay’s answer to the identified problems in the community: Unsanitary environmental condition, improper health practices and beliefs, low salience on health risks and threats. Thus, this will be a project that entails collaboration among private and public sectors and especially among the members of the community because it is believed that hope can only be realized when action is set by the community people themselves.
